Jamie and Adam were given six challenges, to test essential Mythbusters skills.
1) Hurl a tortilla the farthest, without tearing it.
Jamie came up with a tortilla cannon, made from PVC pipe and a SCUBA tank. His first try ripped the tortilla, so he wrapped it in a paper sabot. This is where Jamie let out his "happy giggle."
Adam constructed a throwing arm out of wood, with the tortilla between two aluminum plates.
Each man got three attempts; Adam went first. His longest throw was 60 feet. On Jamie's first turn, he threw his tortilla 73 feet, instantly winning the match!

2) The Fear Test
John Emberton of the east Bay Vivarium showed up with a myriad of critters to try to scare either of the Mythbusters. They were presented with a Tanzanian giant millipede, African Emperor Scorpions, tarantulas, and handfuls of corn snakes. The snakes were the most fun for all, since nothing else had fazed the men. At one point, Jamie had Adam load snakes into his hat, and he wore a wig of snakes! Apparently, one got away down Jamie's clothing.
Adam: "Did you have a python in your pants, there, Hyneman?"
Jamie: "No, it was just a little corn snake."

3) The Weigh-In
Jamie and Adam had three items, and they were to estimate the weight of each. There was a toy car, an angel statue, and a hatch from a plane. Each man got two guesses, first by looking, then by holding each item. Then each item was weighed, and whoever guessed the closest won the match. Adam guessed better on all three!

4) Egg Drop
Jamie and Adam were given boxes containing the following items: two oranges, two latex gloves, paper, five feet of tape, 20 feet of string, and "other assorted trash found lying around the workshop." They had one hour to construct a way to drop an egg off the roof of M5 Industriesí roof - about 26 feet - without breaking the egg.
Adam formed a paper cone, and put the orange in the bottom. The egg was placed inside the inflated gloves. On his first try, the egg cracked, but he got a second try. This time, he was successful!
Jamie, on the other hand, had a totally different approach. First, he ate the orange, and then put the egg inside the two halves of the orange peel. The orange went in the glove, and the glove tied to the string. At the other end of the string was the five feet of tape. This gave him 25 feet to lower the egg, and he officially dropped it the last foot. The egg stayed intact.

5) Pain Threshold
In a paint ball standoff, the men were to each take one shot at the other, then take a step closer, and take another shot. This was to continue, until one man decided he couldn't take it anymore.
Jamie went first, and hit Adam just to the right of his bellybutton. Adam then hit Jamie in the thigh, and Jamie barely flinched. Jamie's next shot was in the same spot! Adam managed to hit Jamie in the cup. When Jamie shot off another bellybutton shot, Adam said he'd had enough.

6) Memory Test
The Mythbusters each had eight questions from the last two seasons to ask each other. Adam went first, and got four, well, four and a half, questions right. When Adam asked the questions of Jamie, he was able to answer five right.

Both Mythbusters gave their best efforts, but when it was all over, Jamie was declared the winner. |
