Though The Discovery Channel hosts an ‘official’ web space that contains show-related content and its own message board, the forum space was found lacking by many of the pioneering members. The forums were reminiscent of the inmates running the asylum. There was a lack of structure and timely moderation. Much like the formation of a revolution, these unsatisfied pilgrims dreamed of a better place; a place where logical discourse could take place in an environment that was both inclusive and nurturing; a place where members were expected to come to the party prepared to talk; a place that would be a community. A MythBusters utopia! And thus, in the back rooms of chat forums the seeds for MBFC were planted. TheBlackWidowNor germinated the seed by obtaining a domain, working with the founding members to create content and designing what is now The MythBusters Fan Club. www.mythbustersfanclub.com went live on March 1, 2004. What began as a ragtag group of idealists has blossomed into a growing community of over 2,000 members. The MythBusters Fan Club is privately owned. It is not affiliated with the Mythbusters television program, Beyond or The Discovery Channel.
