“It was a long way from home, but I think of myself as an 'early adapter', given the plane-loads of people now coming to visit Australia these days”, says Robert. He's spent almost 30 years working in and around radio, but realised early on that, regardless of his enthusiasm, his American accent would prevent him from getting on-air work in Australia's biggest radio markets. So he turned his hand to writing, production and voicework. As one of Australia's leading “ethnic” (read: American-accented) voice artists, Robert has done countless national and international narrations, trailers, commercials and promos for Australia and overseas. He's just finished a job that required him to read over 1,000 questions and answers for a new movie trivia dvd and board game called MGM Screen Test. Although he's usually had another “real job” over these years (like cd-rom publishing, website development, radio marketing), he's done voice work exclusively in the past two years. “Loving it, just quietly”, he says. He's worked with Beyond Productions since narrating “American Journey” in 1999/2000, including narration for Beyond's “Human Prey”, “Anaesthesia”, the travel series, “Mysterious Australia” and others. The opportunity arose in 2003 to narrate a three-part series of two whacky guys busting myths. Producer Peter Rees squeezed a suitable read out of Robert, and the rest is “mythtory”. “I really look forward to getting a VHS copy prior to recording each Mythbusters program, because they're just fun to watch. And what I've seen of the new season so far has been great! There's a lot of crazy myths out there (and some not-so-crazy), and Adam and Jamie are nailing them to the wall - or not! They have so much fun being serious.” “I also like wearing my Mythbusters t-shirt. Oh, and I believe Jamie to be Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter's love child.” http://guitar.about.com/library/weekly/aa061801a.htm You can hear a bit more from Robert at http://www.listenerguide.com/.
